Project Profile: Ethanol is an important clean energy, which can be used as fuel substitutes or oxygen-containing additives, and has a huge market potential. Methyl acetate is synthesized from synthesis gas by dimethyl ether carbonylation. Hydrogenation of methyl acetate to ethanol is a new process of ethanol synthesis which has attracted much attention in recent years. The process, typical green chemical process, has the advantages of high selectivity, mild reaction conditions, low cost and easy availability of catalyst, avoiding the formation of ethanol-water azeotrope and saving energy consumption. The breakthrough of this technology provides a good opportunity for the development of new energy and fine chemicals. The Xingping Fertilizer Plant of Shaanxi Yanchang Group broke a new record with our technology, namely, the industrial plant with an annual output of 100,000 tons of absolute ethanol was successfully started in January this year. The breakthrough of this technology has expanded the products of coal chemical industry and provided new opportunities for downstream new energy and fine chemicals.
