Project Name: Analysis and Application of Important Genes for Resistance to High Temperature during Reproductive and Developing Periods of Rice
Project Owner: Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Project Profile: Due to global warming, rice-planting areas in China and Southeast Asian all experienced extremely high temperature stress in the summer. High temperature leads to decreased fertility and seed setting rate, which seriously affects rice yield. By screening mutant rice data, the researchers identify and obtain high temperature resistant mutant materials in reproductive period and combine the comparison between these materials and natural populations with map cloning and GWAS to find the important genes related to yield and stress tolerance. Then they dissect their functional regulation networks and use molecular assistance breeding methods to improve rice yield and tolerance. At last they select rice-producing areas in China and Southeast Asia countries for the production demonstration.
