Achievement: Low Carbon Emission Water Saving and Drought Resistant Rice
Achievement Owner: Shanghai Agrobiological Gene Center (SAGC)
Introduction: Water saving and drought resistant rice (WDR) is a new type of rice variety with the characteristics of high yield, high quality of paddy rice and water saving and drought resistance of upland rice. This type of rice does not need to be planted in paddy field, but can also be planted in plain upland or slope land or unleveled land. As long as the soil is kept moist, it can still obtain a satisfactory harvest, and even obtain a yield equivalent to that of flooded cultivation in paddy field, so the adaptability of WDR is wider. Demonstration planting in Central East Africa and West Africa has shown strong advantages in increasing yield and resistance to environmental stress.
