Achievement: Coupling Simulator for geohazards (CoSim)
Achievement Owner: Tsinghua University
Introduction: CoSim is a numerical framework that is based on the unique ‘3M’ characteristics (multi-phase, multi-process and multi-scale) of rock and soil, and uses the physical and mechanical mechanism during the deformation and failure process of rock and soil as the starting point to simulate the fundamental behavior. The framework incorporates various numerical tools such as the finite element method (FEM), discrete element method (DEM), material point method (MPM), smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), lattice boltzmann method (LBM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Applying the advantages of each method in solid, fluid, continuous and discontinuous, meso and macro aspects to construct a coupling numerical calculation method between each other. At the same time, it is supported by GPU parallel acceleration to realize large-scale, high-performance computing analysis. This allows for a whole process large-scale refined simulation and prediction analysis of the complex geological disaster chain (including landslide, collapse, mud-rock flow, dam break, flood evolution, etc.).
