Project Name: Co-Production of Desalination-Free Seawater with Magnesium Extraction from Middle East Seawater
Project Owner: Yangzhou Applied Technology Research and Development and Industrialization Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences
Project Profile: With the depletion of steel, aluminum, copper and zinc, magnesium, which only exists in seawater, is inexhaustible. As the third metal, magnesium is the only bulk metal that can be relied on in the future. The Middle East needs a large number of desalination plants, and the concentrated seawater after desalination is rich in magnesium. Magnesium is the lightest metal material, which can be widely used to replace aluminum and engineering plastics, and is widely used in automobiles, mobile phones, computers, household appliances and other products. In the process of extracting metal magnesium from seawater, a clean and environmental protection Chinese process is adopted, which is low in cost and good in benefit. The remaining heat is recovered to supply seawater desalination, which can realize free seawater desalination. The abundant energy in the Middle East is applied to the extraction and processing of non-ferrous magnesium, which has greatly extended the energy industry chain and played an important role in stabilizing the Middle East economy in the era of low oil prices.
